Landscape Visualization Lab
The Landscape Visualization Lab at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry focuses on research into computationally simulating and visualizing landscape ecology, with a focus on information-driven environmental modeling. Students and faculty in the Landscape Visualization Lab work on a mix of theoretical and applied projects in digital landscape modeling, simulation, and visualization using environmental data. Project work includes:
- computational modeling, simulation, and ultra-realistic visualization of large-scale forest sites using immersive virtual reality technology
development of digital workflows to convert non-visual forest simulation data into fully rendered three-dimensional walkthrough environments
simulation and modeling of unique 3D tree models based on species growth characteristics, environmental conditions, and neighbor/community interaction
3D modeling and visualization of cultural and historic landscapes
practice-based study of Building Information Modeling (BIM) within the landscape architecture profession
The Landscape Visualization Lab includes the following resources:
- Three Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets
Large-format LCD wall display for presentation
Leica BLK360 point cloud scanner
DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone
Flexible furniture to support numerous working, meeting, and presentation settings
